Farewell
There was a farewell ceremony for the 653rd Regional Support Group today out at Gateway Airport. They leave for Iraq in a day or two so all the families were there to say their goodbyes.
A Little Sports
It’s been awhile since I have shot these different sports and with the nice weather it was a pleasure.
Bowling 80 games in a day
80-year-old Floyd Burns celebrated his birthday today by bowling 80 straight games. He started at 8:00 a.m. and ended just before 9:00 p.m. tonight, knocking down over 11,000 pins. Truly amazing, he said his feet hurt a little but by 4 in the afternoon tomorrow it will all catch up to him.
Sandra Day O’Connor Project
Justice Sandra Day O’Connor use to live in this adobe house 50-years ago and the O’Connor House Project relocated it to Papago Park in Tempe. She was there for the celebration to paint one last wall on the outside of the house.
Navajo Nation Pt. 3
Even though it was his celebration Raymond Lancer Jr. was hard at work getting everything set up and ready for the day. Here he takes a break from bringing in food and handing out door prizes.
Raymond Lancer Sr., left, and his son Raymond Jr. pulled tickets out of his at to give away door prizes to family and friends.
While all the other family members were inside listening to live music and enjoying their time, the children were all running around outside. Must be fun to have that much space to play on.
Once all the tables and chairs were cleared out, Jay got chased around by his girlfriends son before leaving to go home.
Navajo Nation Pt. 2
I headed over to Standing Rock, NM this weekend to photograph a welcome home celebration/pot luck dinner for an Iraq War veteran. He has been in the service for 12 years now and came home about a month ago so his family invited all his friends and family for a big dinner at the Standing Rock Chapter House on the reservation. It’s really amazing to see how this culture lives and the vastness of the reservation. Over 60 people showed up and they cooked all day ( and yes the food was amazing) while music was played and Jay, the veteran, caught up with family he has not seen in years. It truly was an eye opener into a completely different way of life.
President Crow
I found myself at another speech in the Memorial Union today. This one was a little more interesting and came away with a better photo then a man at a podium.
Sitting Around
Every morning when I go to class downtown a little old lady is reading a book in this same spot and when I come home in the evening there is always someone else sitting there. This guy was smoking something, not exactly sure what.
Juggling Act
As I was walking back to the office from another assignment I saw these two guys juggling out front of the library, come to find out they are part of the juggling club that meets in that same spot every Monday.
Little More Football
It was an ok night for photos, not a good night for the game with a 28-10 loss.
